The Hotel Show Philippines will have its inaugural staging from August 2 to 5, 2017. It will be among the events that will be co-located with the 17th edition of largest food show locally, the World Food Expo (WOFEX), which, like in the past several years, will occupy the two biggest venues in Metro Manilla – SMX Convention Center and World Trade Center in Pasay City (Organised by PEPTarsus).

This volume is 11.31% higher than the accumulated arrivals for the same period last year.”

There are 17 hotel projects, equating to 5,841 rooms that are in the planning, construction, and pre-opening phases throughout the metro, based on the Philippines Hotel Construction Overview report recently released by TOPHOTELPROJECTS. Nine of those new hotels are set to open in 2018.

“Manila, one of the worlds largest and busiest cities, is establishing itself as a luxury destination with global hotel and resort brands expanding their businesses and residing in the capital,” said the Hotel Show Philippines Event Manager John Suzara. “This is one of the core reasons that we are introducing The Hotel Show to the market in Asia here for the first time.”

The Hotel Show started in 1999 and has since become an annual hospitality show in Dubai, UAE (this year’s flagship show set in September at the Dubai World Trade Center). The Hotel Show Saudi Arabia held its inaugural edition in 2012, while the Hotel Show in Africa kicked off its first edition in Johannesburg in June 2017.

MORE THAN 10,000 ROOMS IN THE PHILIPPINES HOTEL CONSTRUCTION PIPELINE

The Philippines has 37 hotel projects and 10,713 rooms in its hotel construction pipeline, according to a new report.

The new Asia-Pacific Hotel Construction Overview report prepared by TOPHOTELPROJECTS exclusively for The Hotel Show Philippines, identifies the Philippines as one of the top ten countries in the region with the most hotel construction currently underway.

The luxury hotel market is listed as the Philippines’ most active area for hotel development – with 35 new properties in this segment in the planning, construction and pre-opening stages – set to open in the next five years.

“In 2017, about 4,200 new hotel rooms are projected to be delivered,” commented Joey Bondoc, Research Manager at Colliers International. “With an estimated 10 million foreign tourists by 2020 – up from 5.4 million in 2015 – and increases in domestic tourism, firms are ramping up their developments to keep up with the influx of international visitors.”

TOPHOTELPROJECTS identify one of the most active brands at present to be Singapore-based Alila Hotels & Resorts – known for its luxury, boutique hotels situated in unique locations – forecast to open its first property in the Philippines by 2019.

“The upcoming hotel projects are complemented by the opening of luxury retail establishments such as S Maison which occupies two floors of the six-star Conrad Manila hotel and the retail components of Solaire Resort & Casino and Shangri-La at The Fort,” Bondoc continued. “These developments reflect the substantial rise in tourist expenditures and demand for accommodation and entertainment options amid sustained economic growth.”

“We are taking the legacy of The Hotel Show Dubai and giving it a local flavor,” commented John Suzara, Event Manager of The Hotel Show Philippines. “Our Dubai show represents the latest trends in hospitality for the Middle East and Africa, and we aim to provide the same opportunity for networking, knowledge share and trading for Asia-Pacific – identified by TOPHOTELPROJECTS in our commissioned report as currently the most active region for hotel construction in the world.”

Tourism activities in PH kick into high gear – INQUIRER.NET

The Rooster has certainly switched gears with various activities in the tourism industry now in full swing.

Panagbenga

Baguio just concluded the annual flower festival Panagbenga with an elaborate flower float parade featuring no less than Aldub stars Maine Mendoza and Alden Richards in the GMA float and Bea Alonzo and Enchong Dee in the ABS-CBN float.

Baguio hotels, restaurants and other food establishments, led by The Manor, also participated in a food festival on Session Road, serving festivalgoers some of their specialties from the Le Chef deli such as Chef Billy King’s raisin bread, banana bread, jams and marmalades.

Flavors of the World

Over at Manila Bay, Sofitel is launching Flavors of the World, a series of food festivals celebrating global cuisine. They are starting the “world tour” with Indonesian food, flying in Chef Pradipta Bayu Primaputra from Pullman Jakarta, who will be here from March 13 to 19. For those who would like to learn how to cook Indonesian cuisine, sign up for a cooking class with this top chef, to be conducted on March 14 at 4 p.m. at Spiral. Chef Pradipta will teach you how to cook Kambing Guling (not kambing duling, haha— this is oven-baked lamb with Indonesian herbs); Ayam Taliwang (spicy grilled chicken, Lombok-style); Bebek Betutu (roasted duck with Bali spices); Ikan Dabu—dabu (deep fried fish with Dabu-dabu sauce); Redang Padang (beef with coconut); and Iga Balado (Indonesian beef rib).

Flavors of the Philippines

Yesterday, March 11, the Department of Tourism launched Madrid Fusion Manila 2017 with a Giant Paella Festival at Greenbelt 3. This kicked off the Ayala Malls’ activities for April as part of the DOT’s Flavors of the Philippines, a project to promote Philippine regional cuisine during the month of Madrid Fusion Manila.

Mission: Manila

On March 28, “Mission: Manila,” a personal project to promote Filipino chefs inspired by Madrid Fusion, will feature Chef Myke Tatung Sarthou in a dinner entitled Flavors from Across the Archipelago. Cosponsored by the Raffles Makati, Destileria Limtuaco and Lobster House Manila, the 8-course dinner with cocktails and wine-pairing will include the menu Tatung showcased at the Dinner with the Stars in Madrid where he was a featured chef.

Tatung will also serve the dish he presented during his talk at Madrid Fusion last January. He was the only Filipino speaker at Madrid Fusion 2017 in Spain and the first Filipino to speak at the Madrid Fusion auditorium.

Madrid Fusion Manila

The most awaited food event of the year, of course, is Madrid Fusion Manila, which runs from April 6 to 8 and will be held at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.

As always, one of the highlights is the Regional Lunch organized by the Department of Agriculture. Every day, will have a different feature for the lunch. As this year’s theme is “Towards a Sustainable Gastronomic Planet”, the first day will highlight various kinds of Philippine rice; the second day will highlight Philippine meat products; and the third day will highlight Philippine corn.

According to Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, undersecretary of the Department of Agriculture who is heading the DA’s participation in Madrid Fusion Manila: “All the dishes in the DA Regional Lunches will be using ingredients produced by our local farmers and fisherfolk. With these efforts, the DA aims to raise the awareness of chefs, restaurateurs, and food enthusiasts that the Philippines can offer a variety of agricultural products and ingredients at par with international standards.”

The expo will have over a hundred booths, including the DA’s own booth, highlighting Philippine indigenous products and heirloom ingredients.

And if you can prove that you belong to the food industry (bring your ID!), Joel Pascual (creator of WOFEX and the main man in charge of the trade show) has made sure that you can get in for free!

WOFEX and The Hotel Show

Speaking of WOFEX or the World Food Expo (the largest food show in the Philippines), it’s a little early but I might as well mention—especially for the benefit of those who might want to participate—that this year’s WOFEX will be held from Aug. 2 to 5 and for the first time, the second floor of SMX will be home to The Hotel Show Philippines, the first hotel expo this large in Asia.

This will be an expo patterned after The Hotel Show Dubai showcasing the newest products and services around the world in the hotel and food service industries.

“This is in response to the growing tourism industry in the Philippines as well as the massive build up of food service establishments like hotels and restaurants,” Pascual explains.

Pascual’s company, PEPTarsus, was also motivated after hearing that expats were saying that while the Philippines has the best beaches, tourists would rather go to Bali or other tourism destinations because their services are better.

“If we are able to uplift the hotel experience not only for chain brands but also for boutique hotels, we would be a better player in terms of tourism,” he says.

The Hotel Show is targeting around 150 companies to set up booths. Together with WOFEX, the two events will provide the biggest food and hospitality platform in Philippine history. For information on how to participate, visit http://www.thehotelshow.com.

BOOMING PHILIPPINES HOTEL CONSTRUCTION IN FOCUS WITH DEDICATED NEW EVENT

The inaugural “The Hotel Show Philippines” will take place 02 to 05th August 2017 in Metro Manila. The new event will be co-located with the World Food Expo (WOFEX), the largest food show in the Philippines, set to celebrate its 17th edition this year.

Together, the two events will provide the biggest food and hospitality platform in the Philippines’ history, occupying its two largest venues: World Trade Center Metro Manila and SMX Convention Center.

Teresita D. Landan, Head of MICE Department, Tourism Promotions Board Philippines commented on the new venture: “It is an opportune time for The Hotel Show to be brought to Manila this year as the country maintains its economic momentum. A hotel construction boom continues with 50 upcoming hotels across the country translating to 13,334 hotel rooms as of August 2016, according to figures provided by data and analytics specialist STR Global.”

“Moreover, the continuous growth of tourism arrivals has helped propel the projected growth of Metro Manila hotels in the next three years,” Landan continued. “The Department of Tourism recorded a total of 5,967,005 visitors for 2016, surpassing the year-end arrivals in 2015 of 5,360,682. This volume is 11.31% higher than the accumulated arrivals for the same period last year.”

Ray Tinston, Portfolio Director of the dmg events’ hospitality portfolio, added: “At this time of remarkable growth and modernisation for the Philippines hospitality sector, there is huge demand for the materials required to build, develop and maintain a hotel or restaurant. This includes across all popular product and service sectors from interiors, lighting and design to technology. The announcement followed dmg events’ recent move to geo-clone its popular The Hotel Show (made famous by its Dubai edition, which has been running for 18 years) in Africa, the first edition of which will take place in Johannesburg from 25 to 27th June 2017.  Also part of its hospitality portfolio is the 5th edition of The Hotel Show Saudi Arabia which will run between 04 to 06th April 2017 in Jeddah.

The Hotel Show Philippines to launch in 2017

The event will capitalize on country’s thriving hospitality portfolio

dmg events Middle East, Asia & Africa has announced that it will launch its successful Hotel Show brand in the Philippines in 2017 to capitalize on the Southeast Asian country’s growing international tourism and hospitality portfolio.

The Hotel Show Philippines will take place from 2 to 5 August, 2017 in Metro Manila, while the flagship show will follow in September at the Dubai World Trade Centre in the UAE.

The Hotel Show Philippines will be co-located with the World Food Expo (WOFEX) organised by PEPTarsus, the largest food show in the Philippines which will turn 17 next year. Together, they will provide the biggest food and hospitality platform in the country’s history, occupying its two largest venues, namely the World Trade Center Metro Manila and SMX Convention Center.

Andy Stuart, Vice President, dmg events MEAA, said: “Tailored for the Philippine market, The Hotel Show Philippines will be based on dmg events’ successful The Hotel Show Dubai. The Hotel Show Dubai yearly gathers international exhibitors to showcase their hospitality products for restaurants, cafes, bars and hotels, to cite a few. Bringing the Dubai show’s undisputed legacy and giving it a local flavor, we are confident that the Philippine version of our highly popular brand will attract the same level of local and global interest and attention. The upcoming opening of our geo-cloned hospitality event in the Southeast Asian nation forms part of our expansion strategy aimed at widening our scope and establishing our presence in key international markets.”

The launch comes at a time when there is much buzz around the commercial hospitality opportunities being presented in the Philippines’ tourist destinations, central business districts and metropolitan areas.

Metro Manila has the largest hotel room inventory in the country. In a recent report, Colliers International reveals that more than 900 new rooms were completed during the first six months of 2016.  An estimated 3,100 hotel rooms in total are expected to open in this area alone by the end of the year, with new properties including the Conrad Manila and Shangri-La at the Fort being added to its inventory.

Colliers attributes the Philippine market’s steady growth mainly to its rising number of international tourist arrivals since 2010. Additionally, it notes the country’s potential to become a major tourist destination, resulting in positive outlook and market optimism among property developers and investors.

Ray Tinston, Portfolio Director of the dmg events’ hospitality portfolio, commented: “The Philippines hospitality sector is experiencing a period of remarkable growth and modernisation. Strong demand for new hotel and F&B outlets is being driven by sustained economic performance, a stable business environment, improved infrastructure and growing international recognition as a leading destination for both leisure and business travellers. Expanding our portfolio to include an annual Hotel Show in Metro Manila will provide a key platform for industry professionals looking to invest in the future of hospitality here.”

The announcement followed dmg events’ recent move to geo-clone The Hotel Show in Africa, the first edition of which is slated to take place from 25 to 27 June 2017.  Also part of its hospitality portfolio is The Hotel Show Saudi Arabia whose 5th edition will be staged from 4 to 6 April, 2017. For hotel, restaurant, cafe and food service industries, The Hotel Show is the ultimate showcase of the world’s leading hospitality solutions.

The Hotel Show Philippines 2017 will provide a unique opportunity for hospitality professionals looking to do business, network, and learn about the latest trends in the hotel, restaurant, leisure and food service industry in Metro Manila and the wider Philippines.
